SRS BZNZ : How to get organised when it feels impossible

I saw this meme the other day and had to laugh, it describes Luke & I perfectly. Admitting how awful I am at keeping on top of things is pretty embarrassing. We often joke about it but it's not that being *so* disorganised doesn't bother me ~ and this is what's hard to admit ~ it's that I have let it get so out of hand I don't want to deal with it.

I guess the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. As hilarious as it sounds, seeing that meme made me realise that I need to change, I want to be that other type of person ... y'know the one who can actually find that file on their computer because they named it something logical. Who knew a meme could be so profound.

So, I have been on a bit of a mission recently to organise *everything*. I'm taking baby steps and whilst I haven't said goodbye to all those files with names like kndkjzn.psd, or reached the elusive zero inbox just yet, I can see light at the end of the tunnel ... apologies to anyone awaiting an email from me {now you know why!}

~ Start RIGHT NOW, no laziness allowed {that's how you got here in the first place after all}. Attend to today's new emails, delete if not needed, otherwise reply and file away. Put today's receipts into that spreadsheet. Wash up your bowl after breakfast; you get the idea. Attend to tasks as they come up, don't put things off, that's how things build up and become unmanageable

DO NOT focus on how much there is to sort through, it will put you off and you will never want to tackle it. Work your way through the backlog in order of importance. Be ruthless. Not replied to that 6 month old email? There's probably not much point now, just delete it. Organise your computer one folder at a time. Sort through your old receipts and catch up with your accounts in batches.

~ Set yourself rules and STICK TO THEM. No matter how enthusiastically you start, the only way to get organised is discipline! Don't expect to be the Queen of organisation by the end of today. You need to make this your routine and it takes time to build a habit. Doing a little bit each day will send you in the right direction, be strict with yourself but don't beat yourself up ~ you're only human after all.
